Tachographs & Road Speed Limiters

Our vehicle workshops in Coventry are approved by the Vehicle Inspectorate of the Department of Transport for the installation, calibration, and rectification of tachographs and road speed limiters. Our installation team of factory trained technicians have a wealth of experience spanning over 25 years. Workshops are equipped with the latest technology and equipment, most recently for dealing with digital tachographs. We are “up to speed” with the ‘EU control device directive’ ( Annex 1B EC) for digital tachographs and our staff have attended and passed the training required for testing and calibration of the new digital tachograph with driver card.

Carwood has been in the tachograph business since the 1970`s pre-dating the advent of European Union legislation. Since then both tachograph and road speed limiter business has grown to become a significant part of daily vehicle workshop operations, with a throughput averaging in excess of 25 vehicles a day. Our booking system aims to give next day service and frequently provides same day service for urgent Customer needs.

As part of our business policy of maintaining O.E. standards in the aftermarket we partner and install products from Siemens VDO (Kienzle), Stonebridge TVI (Veedor Root), Groeneveld and Sturdy. O.E. parts are kept in stock from these manufacturers to allow fast vehicle turn around.

Work includes full installation and rectification, together with 2 year and 6 year tachograph checks which vehicle operators are required to have by law. The 2 year service involves the checking of seals and taking of test charts whilst the 6 year service requires the additional removal of the head for bench testing. In accordance with our V.I. approval, records are kept for a minimum 7 year period for every vehicle. These records are frequently requested by the police or the DTP in such circumstances as road traffic accidents.

Since the first days of conventional tachographs with discs, our technicians continue to attend factory training courses. They have in preparation for the new ‘EU control device directive’ ( Annex 1B EC) already attended and passed the training required for testing and calibration of the new digital tachograph with driver card.

Besides vehicles required by law, the business provides retrofit installation of both tachograph and road speed limiters for owners /users needing good control of the vehicles work pattern. The major part of this is for light commercial vehicles and 4 x 4‘s. It should be noted that there is a legal requirement for tachograph installation when a vehicle towing a trailer exceeds 3.5 tonne.
